In this study, a descriptive exploratory design was used to investigate the level and content of the daily life distress among a non-probability sample of 8 single female schizophrenic patients in a psychiatric day care ward. Structural and semi-structural data were collected from self-reporting and interviewing. Descriptive statistics and content analysis were used to analyze the data. The result shows that their major problems of daily life distress are, by order, intimate relationship, verbal expression, family interaction, recreational activity, vocational employment, school resuming, medication, life routine, and sexuality. The first two problems are significantly high in level, while the others are only moderately high. In content, their problems are characterized by low self-efficacy, network crisis, and disempowerment. This study is intended to call for our attention to the problems in single female psychotic patients. Several related issues for future studies are also discussed. This paper is expected to use as a reference in the service and research of psychiatric mental health. |
