This study was to explore the maintenance processes in dating relationships. First, a longitudinal study was developed by using questionnaire and interview methods to identify critical factors to relationship maintenance. Also, the result were compared with Rusbult's (1983) results, in terms of investment model. An alternative cultural perspective was proposed. The results showed some discrepancies from the investment model, where as not only cost estimation was much more complicated than expected but also satisfaction didn't have same impact on commitment as Rusbult's (1983) results. A perspective of normative relationship process was discussed. |
