In this article, new trends and viewpoints concerning psychotherapy in the United States were shared. Individuals who seek psychotherapy are viewed as mentally healthier than those who have problems and do not seek therapy. For those who attempt to seek psychotherapy, it is of utmost importance that they find a competent therapist. In the United States, psychotherapists are required to be licensed in their own particular field. A complaint may be filed if clients feel they have been mistreated by their therapist. I also briefly introduced several modes of psychotherapy. They include: behavioral therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, depth psychotherapy, and sandplay therapy. Sandplay therapy is a very new, creative, non-verbal therapy recently founded by Dora Kalff, a Swiss psychotherapist. Through the provision of a free and protected space--provided by the therapist--clients are able to create their own world in the sandtrays and eventually heal themselves. |
