Mergers and acquisitions (M&A) among international corporations have become increasingly frequent in recent years, not only affecting existing market structures but also bringing profound impacts on related industries across global regions. This study examines the impact of the failed Penguin Random House merger on Taiwan's book industry chain. The Penguin Random House merger case has been one of the most significant events in the publishing industry in recent years. Following its failure, significant changes have occurred in global publishing market's copyright trading, content creation, and market strategies, with Taiwan, as a cultural and publishing hub in Asia, naturally being affected by this wave of changes. The results of this study show that that after the merger failure, Taiwan's book industry chain faces greater market pressure. In the digital era, traditional publishing giants must seek mergers to gain larger market shares while simultaneously facing digital transformation challenges. The study indicates that market investors maintain a long-term pessimistic outlook towards the traditional book industry, which has prompted Taiwanese publishers to place greater emphasis on content development and actively seek partnerships while building their own digital transformation capabilities. |
