With the rapid advancement of AI neural networks, the materiality of new media art has encountered new possibilities and impacts. This paper reviews recent discussions on digital materiality and perspectives on“neomateriality”, drawing upon several contemporary international artworks to identify key dimensions of digital materiality today. In terms of practical exploration, the paper introduces the experimental development of ''The Skin'' (2025) series, which integrates AI-driven facial emotional recognition neural networks, data visualization, data translation, and digital fabrication. By transforming facial emotions expressed on social media into tangible objects, this process explores the reflective potential and possibilities of artistic practice in digital materiality amid the rapid development of neural networks. |
