It is a challenging task for most psychotherapists to help young victims of incest overcome their traumas. Based on Dora Kalff's sandplay therapy, the author presents a case to discuss the healing process for an adolescent girl who had been sexual abused by her relative for three years during childhood. Sandplay therapy provides the client with a free and protected space both physically and psychologically. In the protective context, the co-transference field has been established and healing and growth occurred. The client was able to take the creative role instead of the role of victim. Traumatize memories and experiences were worked through as the client employed her creative powers. Symbols and spatial meanings of sandplay process were warranted. Issues about working with paraprofessionals for incest victims were also discussed. |
