The“Education 2030 Framework for Action”represents a global consensus on quality education practices, especially amidst geopolitical instability and the recovery following the pandemic, which has brought heightened attention to the role of school leadership. This study uses bibliometric analysis to assess school leadership research themes in the Web of Science’s SSCI database from 1998 to 2023. The research aims to identify influential authors and highly-cited articles, as well as the academic institutions and collaborative networks between countries in school leadership studies. It also seeks to understand the evolution of school leadership themes from 1998 to 2023, including the focus on school leadership post the 2020 COVID-19 outbreak. Utilizing Bibliometrix and CiteSpace for data cleaning and analysis, the study pinpoints crucial documents, scholars, academic institutions, and countries in the international school leadership community. Through social network analysis of co-citations, it effectively delineates the knowledge trajectory and current trends in school leadership research. The analysis concludes with two significant insights: the predominant role of U.S. scholars and academic institutions in the field of school leadership; and the post-pandemic restructuring of school leadership, which is based on the research and practice concerning teacher self-efficacy. |
