This article discusses the sentiment towards “reunification” in Chinese society through the theory of gestalt psychology. Due to inheriting the narrative of the “century of humiliation” and traditional doctrines, present-day Chinese society acquires its ancestors’ sorrows and fears, as well as historical duty and mission, turning “reunification” into an unfinished legacy. Through the avoidance strategy of introjection, Chinese society absorbs knowledge of history and tradition without questioning. In addition, it believes erroneously regarding Taiwan’s current situation that the Taiwanese public longs for “reunification”. |
