After precise research of the origin of every place name in the Kang-Hsi Taiwan map, we have found three new points as follows: 1. There is possibility that the name of TAIWAN was developed from the aboriginal tribe named TAYOUAN who is the subgroup of Siraya and lived in the An-pin area of Tainan city. Also there are other aboriginal tribes' names developed into nowday names of counties, cities, towns and villages. 2. This map had recorded the main villages of Han people. Even the military organization names of Cheng Ch'eng-Kung also became the names of city town or village. 3. The early immigration of south Fun-Chien province used their dialect, not Pei-Ching dialect, to transliterate the aboriginal tribe's names. |
