To command some local military affairs originated from Shun Emperor(順帝) of Eastern Han Dynasty. It was originally a temporary duty, and discharged after a punitive expedition is completed. Because of long-term oppositions among three kingdoms, the temporary duty gradually evolves into an official position. Shu Han Kingdom also establishes its war zone commander in each place in accordance with the needs of the military administration situation. There are Laisiang(庲降), Hanzhong(漢中), Jiangzhou(江州) and Yongan (永安) four big war zones. Each war zone was established for its strategic considerations, therefore also had the different evolution. Laisiang Du Du (庲降都督) was a new officer name, the war zone commander to be responsible for the defense duty toward south, and adopted the strategy of stability during the whole period. Since the Hanzhong(漢中) war zone sat at the front line between Shu Han Kingdom(蜀漢) and Wei Kingdom(魏), their tactic alternated between offense and defense every now and then, and their commander was not only an important military officer, but sometimes holds the post by governor. It is quite different from other war zones. Jiangzhou(江州) and Yongan (永安) two zones were originally supposed to defend Wu Kingdom(吳), but both their commanders were mutual subordination, they are actually one war zone. At latter period of the Last Emperor(後主), Jiang Wei(姜維) invaded Longxi(隴西) repeatedly. And then many new war zones appeared at the frontier e.g. Wudu(武都), Yinping(陰平) In northwest. |
