The 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics marked a significant milestone in Taiwan's table tennis history, as 19-year-old local player Lin Yun-Ju partnered with Cheng I-Ching to win the bronze medal in mixed doubles. This achievement sparked a nationwide enthusiasm for table tennis, making it one of the popular sports among the Taiwanese population. Over the past decade, Taiwanese table tennis players have shown notable improvements in their overall performance, achieving outstanding results. Efforts from the Ministry of Education's Sports Administration, the Chinese Taipei Table Tennis Association, and coaches at all levels have contributed greatly to this progress. However, surpassing the current Olympic bronze medal achievements and breaking through the defenses of the world's top players is no easy task. This article aims to contribute insights gained from 25 years of player experience and 15 years of coaching in table tennis. Drawing from extensive research collected from domestic and international journals, the article organizes and summarizes winning strategies within training regimens.To this end, specific training recommendations are proposed for different stages: 1.) Early Development Years: Focus on laying a solid foundation and mastering fundamental techniques, especially emphasizing the power and tactical use of forehand attacks. 2.) Adolescent Comprehensive Development Period: Utilize sports science theories to enhance table tennis-specific fitness and improve players' execution of tactical strategies in competition. 3.) Peak Years as National Players: Enhance adaptability in-game strategies, strengthen mental resilience, and reduce the risk of sports injuries. 4.) Critical Phase for Olympic Medal Contention: Cultivate composure under pressure, especially during pivotal moments and maintain stable psychological traits. By emphasizing these core principles, this flexible and adaptive training plan aims to serve as a crucial reference for Taiwan's coaching staff. It is designed to increase the probability of future medal achievements and propel Taiwanese table tennis to new heights. |
