As the second term of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) governance end, an opportunity has emerged to address truth and responsibility surrounding the February 28 Incident (or 228 Incident). With the recent publication of Chiang Kai-shek's diary by the Academia Historica, academic research on this issue is now flourishing. However, despite the increasing amount of historical data being disclosed, there is no guarantee of achieving a deeper understanding of the truth. In fact, we may become further distanced from the facts if not review resources with sufficient caution. To get closer to the truth and analyze the February 28 Incident effectively, it is advisable to revisit George H. Kerr's“Formosa Betrayed.” |
