The purpose of this study is to explore through empirical research how the Self-directed Learning Notebook can improve depression, anxiety and self-efficacy of female inmates in this women’s prison. The subjects of the study were the female prison inmates who still have at least one year (inclusive) of their sentence. A total of 146 female subjects (77 in the experimental group and 69 in the control group) were divided into two groups. Participants were tested on three scales:“Beck Depression Inventory”,“Beck Anxiety Inventory”and“Self-Efficacy Scale”before and after the study. A total of 92 subjects completed the study (48 in the experimental group and 44 in the control group). After receiving treatment, the experimental group’s depression and self-efficacy were significantly improved. Review of the prison’s correctional courses were mainly arranged by the prison, and it was difficult for inmates to have the autonomy to choose the content of the classes. This study attempts to seek the perspective of the inmates who initiative to record the courses through the Self-directed Learning Notebook, to record the experiences and the key points, to understand the impact of receiving the courses on the inmates. Those who hold the Self-directed Learning Notebook also took the courses as usual. After receiving the correctional treatment for nearly 7 months, the inmates’emotional state and self-efficacy have significantly changed, their depression become significantly better and self-efficacy has significantly improved. Through the holding and recording of Self-directed Learning Notebook, the distances between the inmates and the correctional treatment were shortened, and the courses can be implemented more jointly. |
