“Skip-generation family”can also be called“grandparent-grandchild family”, which refers to a family type in which grandchildren are unable to live with their parents due to various reasons and are entrusted with the upbringing of their grandparents. The researcher found at the educa¬tion site that grandparents often had a very hard time taking care of their grandchildren. Therefore, this study aims to explore the grandparents’caregiving process for their teenager grandchildren. This study adopted qualitative research methodology with three interviewees. Through the collection and analysis of in-depth interviews, the following research re¬sults were obtained: (1) The middle generation became a single parent or left home to work was the main reason of forming a grandparent-grand¬child family. (2) Although grandparents had positive and negative feelings in the caregiving process, through understanding and communication with their grandchildren, it helped to improve the relationship between grandparents and grandchildren; (3) The awareness of self-care in grand¬parents helped improve the quality of accompanying grandchildren. Fi¬nally, the researcher puts forward conclusions based on the research re¬sults and makes suggestions to relevant personnel, units and subsequent researchers. |
