As The rate of women elected in Taiwan's elections has record highs, How do women's guaranteed quotas at different electoral levels help women to participate in politics? And is the women's guaranteed quota still necessary when the rate of women elected has been stably higher? Through literature analysis and data from Central Election Database, this study analyzes the design of the electoral system and other factors affecting women's political participation. In order to ascertain whether the women's quota system is effective in protecting women's participation in politics, or whether there are other more important factors. The results show that party nomination plays the most important role in women's participation in politics. In districts with smaller constituencies, there is still a need to rely on the women's quota system to provide women with opportunities to reverse their disadvantages in political participation. Therefore, there is still necessary to guarantee quotas for women, and the applicable thresholds should be expanded to ensure women's participation in public policies. |
