This article presents the concept and practice of copyright in Taiwan from 1946 to 1964. It observes the interaction of actors in publishing industry, and compares with concept of Copyright in Chinese before World War II. It finds that Copyright transformed“priceless”imagine on work of Literati to exchangeable in Late Qing, made remuneration legitimate, also moralize copyright itself. The recognition of copyright helped Literati survive from the traditional idea of“Literati shouldn’t profit from writing”in era of post-imperial examination. After 1949, writer didn’t need to defense the legitimacy of copyright, but the concept of Copyright also faced compete from other moral values like anti-communism and development of national culture. |
