On October 1, 1949, the People’s Republic of China (PRC) celebrated its establishment. Two months later, on December 7, the government of the Republic of China (ROC) was relocated, leaving Beijing and Taipei separated from each other by a gulf of water. However, for actors on the world stage, it was more important to re-establish an understanding of the representative of China and its role in the Cold War structure. In this article, the authors examine the significance of the“Chinese issue”from Japan’s point of view, as well as the diplomatic war that ensued in the United Nations. |
