This article summarizes the role-playing and evolution of Japan-US security arrangements in East Asian security, and focuses on the situation in the Taiwan Strait. In the early Cold War, the United States constructed an alliance system in East Asia to contain the Sino-Soviet Union, and the Japan-US security treaty played a pivotal role. The joint statement of the Japan-US summit issued on November 21, 1969, linked Taiwan with Japan’s security and became the“Taiwan Clause”of the Japan-US Security Treaty. The“Mutual Defense Treaty between the United States of America and the Republic of China”concluded between the Republic of China and the United States on December 2, 1954 is one of them, thus allowing Taiwan’s security and The Japan-US security treaty are linked together. |
