The study investigates the group themes and effectiveness of a support group for significant others who had beloved ones been sexually abused. The group met once a week for two hours for 9 weeks from March to June, 1999. Six members and three leaders particitated in this group, and one observer recorded the process of the group. After each session of group, members completed the Therapeutic Factors Measurement to assess the effectiveness of the group. The results indicated members felt they were helped most in the dimension of Existential and Altrum areas. The implications of the results and suggestions for future research are discussed. |
