The horned frog are classified as Leptodactylidae (family), Ceratophryinae (subfamily), distributed in Central and South America is a kind of carnivorous frog. Common varieties including 8 species Ceratophrys ornate, Ceratophrys cranwelli, Ceratophrys cornuta, Ceratophrys aurit, Ceratophrys calcarat, Ceratophrys stolzmanni, Ceratophrysjoazeirensis and Ceratophrys testudo. Because of its bright and varied body color, become a popular pet frog in recent years. The early horned frog feed mode was primary dependent on raw bait such as mice, worm, insects or fish. However raw bait have defect of inconvenient to store, malnutrition and pathogen. Therefore development of functional feed in horned frog is necessary. |
