The paper reviews the author's six published empirical studies on Taiwanese sex-offenders and through in-depth interviews of nine group leaders attempts to understand the effectiveness of group psychotherapy and the difficulties and impacts on group leaders of leading these kind of groups over the past ten years. The paper focuses on primary themes of the therapeutic changes and perceived therapeutic factors from different types and risk levels of sex-offenders; the presenting group atmosphere in different group phases; the perceived difficulties of leading this type of group and the positive/negative impacts on group leaders. The paper examines the consistent foundlings across six empirical papers, and then addresses the practical difficulties of running this type of group for sex-offenders. Finally, current applications and recommendations for future policy are offered in the paper. |
