Multiple family therapy (MFT) became one of the management strategies for patients with schizophrenia since 1950.Several identified patients with their families co-joined in the group therapy to improve the relationship between them and their environment. Furthermore, positive results were found by previous research. In this paper, theories and group and group process of MFT were reviewed, and one MFT group performed at our rehabilitation ward was also presented. After 8 sessions of MFT, the group members subjectively gained improvement in (1) .increasing the knowledge of mental illness and treatment (2) .reducing feeling of loneliness (3) .being more positive about the future (4) .learning different experiences from others. Besid, other benefits such as emotion release, increasing understanding to each other and relieving family tension were also noted. However, the goals for expansion of group topics and development of potentiality and autonomy in group members were not achieved due to the limited sessions. Since the advantages of MFT were obvious in the treatments of schizophrenic patients, more involvement of multiple disciplines was recommended. |
