Object: The purpose of this research is to assess the validity of and to explore the possible application of Interpersonal Visual Distance Scale (IVDS). Method: The group members and leaders filled in IVDS and group climate questionnaire (GCQ) after each group session. The staffs also evaluated A System for the Multiple Level Observation of Groups (SYMLOG) for group members. Mixed linear model was applied for testing the correlations among IVDS, GCQ and SYMLOG. Result: Conflict and engagement of GCQ were significantly related with IVDS, but avoidance was not. In SLMLOG, P (Friendly) -N (Unfriendly) dimension was correlated with the result of IVDS. Conclusion: IVDS is a accessible tool with good validity for group psychotherapy. Applying IVDS can help the leaders to evaluate the change in group-as-a-whole, intra-group interpersonal relationship, and the character and transition of individuals in the group. |
