Family matters. However, we seldom see such group counseling held in a university setting. This study recruits 7 female college students who attend 8-sessions' counseling group focusing on family issues. Meanwhile, the researcher (as well as the leader) also invites 7 graduate students as observers via monitor witness the whole group processes and discuss anything pop-in in a meeting. The results present group processes and themes, members' reactions and performance, and observers' feedbacks. The researcher finds that: group members are intertwined between loyalty to parents and being herself, family intimacy is stuck between filial ethics and relational boundary. The members express their gains from the group. The observers raise questions concerned with leadership style and power, process interventions and members' involvement. |
