Group psychotherapy plays an important role in treating psychiatric patients. However, insufficient training on the knowledge and practice of group psychotherapy may hinder the efficacy of group therapy. The present study reviewed the processes of founding and developing of the group psychotherapy program at the Tsaotun Psychiatric Center. From 2010 to 2013, the center firstly started a training model for group psychotherapists, and then developed it into a training program of group psychotherapy for teams of diverse experts across acute wards. Evaluations of satisfaction were collected from 32 participants who participated the training programfor at least six months, including four aspects: “individual learning”, ”the training model “, ”the quality of teaching” and ”training outcomes”. The results showed that the trainees gave positive feedback on the following outcomes: “their improvements of group leading skill”, “friendly and supportive learning atmosphere”, and “their providing of better psychosocial cares to the patients”. On the other hand, some trainees suggested the aspects that could be improved, including “lacking literature reading and theory learning”, “lacking personal experiences to be in a therapy group”, “needing for self-training”, and ”the ineffectiveness of motivating more people to join the program”. This article also discussed the reasons why participants might not have enough motivation to complete the training program. We suggested that the program could combine with each professional clinical ladder system and PGY training programs, and provide a more comprehensive training in the future in order to enhance the motivations of participants. |
