Dynamically interpersonal group psychotherapy is a therapeutic group with psychodynamic-orientated and interpersonal-approached entities. The change of object- and selfrepresentation was reported on a married middle-age man with a diagnosis of major depression in the group. In the developmental history, the man had an authoritative father. Therefore, he had strong fear to get along well with his father and the boss and had transference toward the therapist which meant be projecting his father image into the therapist. Fear overwhelmed him to escape the group when he faced the therapist in the early stage. After some testing, he found the therapist was not so authoritative as his fantasy, which made him to transmute the internal bad object. Moreover, he brought this experience back to the ordinary life. After trying to reinteract with his father, he developed a new interactional pattern. |
