Objectives: The study aimed to assess the efficacy of a poetry recitation group(PRG) with chronic schizophrenics (CSs) on emotional and interpersonal adjustment. Methods: The 24 study subjects selected from 3 rehabilitation wards were randomly assigned to 2 groups (experimental and control groups),each group were 12 subjects. The session ran weekly and each lasted 90 minutes. Total 24 sessions in 6 months. Data were to collect by using the SAS, SDS, SD and PSS and measured at the pre-training and post-training periods respectively. Results: 1. Owing to about 17% drop-out rate, the experimental group were still maintained 10 study subjects and participated and completed 24-session PRG. The control group were also still maintained 10 study subjects without any PRG. 2. This PRG with CSs was effective for enhancing their emotional and interpersonal adjustment. 3. This PRG with CSs was an improvement on emotional and interpersonal adjustment over the control group. 4. No sex difference of a PRG with CSs effected on emotional and interpersonal adjustment was noted. Conclusions: The efficacy of a PRG with CSs on emotional and interpersonal adjustment was positive, we suggest it could be worthy of being considered as one of multiple treatment modalities. |
