This article provides commentary on two tomb epitaphs of the Tang period Ming Clan and explores the development of the Ming Chongyan family during the Tang Dynasty. The epitaphs commemorate Ming Chongyan's father, Ming Ke, and Ming's younger brother, Ming Chonglan, both of whom were descendants of the famous recluse Ming Sengshao from the Northern and Southern Dynasties. The information in the two tomb epitaphs is useful to connect the pedigree of Ming Sengshao's family from the Northern and Southern Dynasties to the Tang dynasty, as well as to reveal the history of the family members' political careers, marriages, residences, and burials in the Tang dynasty. |
