This article discusses some topics concerning related historical facts and events, focusing on the interpersonal relationships of the Ping-yuan Hua families, who were members of Chinese medieval aristocracy during the Cao Wei(曹魏)and Jin(晉)Dynasties, by analyzing historical records about the era and the inscription on the memorial gravestone within the tomb of Hua Fang in order to contribute to our understanding of the Ping-yuan Huas, and even the Chinese medieval aristocracy in general. This article proposes possible interpretations regarding the background of Hua Xin's wife, the influences on the process of development of the Ping-yuan Huas caused by their family tradition and the political choices made by themselves, the possibility that the members of the Ping-yuan Huas being included in or left out of the family genealogy was connected with their being children of the wife or of concubines, and the contemporary social realities & interpersonal networks reflected by the marriages of the Ping-yuan Huas. Meanwhile, the article examines the form and style of Pei Songzhi's annotations to the Sanguozhi, and also the characteristics and limitations of the historical records quoted there and in other relevant sources. |
