Textual Researches of the Epitaph of Ming Lai

Based on the tomb epitaph of Ming Lai that was excavated in Ling prefecture in Shandong province in 1973 and the tomb epitaph of Ming Tanxi excavated in Nanjing in 1972, together with other traditional history texts, this article examines a variety of issues including the ancestry of the Ming clan, the origins of the surname, the situation of the ancestral home in Pingyuan after the Mings had migrated out, the relationships between the of families of Ming Tanxi and Ming Lai, and the political careers of members of Ming Lai's family.
