Learn the Citizen Judges Law from Child Abuse Death Cases

In March 2024, a case of child abuse resulting in death occurred, which caused public outrage. Some people proposed on the citizen platform that the only death penalty for child abuse resulting in death was death. However, even if the legislation is passed, it cannot be applied to this case under the principle of non-retroactivity of law. And since from January 1, 2023, as long as a person commits an intentional crime and the result is death, citizen judges must participate in the trial. Under such a trial model, is it possible for this case to be treated as intentional homicide? The possibility of a death sentence is worth exploring. In order to focus the issue, this article uses this event as a basis to create a virtual example and analyze it so that law students can understand and learn the Citizen Judges Law.
