This article firstly seeks to clarify the meaning of inclusive education in Taiwan. Secondly, by understanding the historical context and legislative spirit of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, it further explores the recent developments in Taiwan surrounding the practical implementation of the Convention’s principles through the concept of inclusive education. Furthermore, it provides an overview of the legislative progress in Taiwan related to inclusive education over the years, with a particular focus on the significant revisions made to the Special Education Act in 2023. These amendments represent a significant step forward in Taiwan’s efforts to align with the ideals of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Finally, the author addresses the potential issues and practical implications following the recent legislative changes so as to clarify whether the amended Special Education Act is feasible in practice and offer relevant recommendations and expectations for addressing any issues that may arise. |
