In recent years, it has became mandatory to wear face masks all the time, because of outbreaking COVID-19 pandemic. Past researches show that using surgical face masks (SFMs) in long term can eventually cause some problems like acne flare-ups on face skin. In this study, a TRIZ-based systematic innovation approach, combining TRIZ and SCAMPER (Substitute, Combine, Adapt, Modify, Put to other use, Eliminate, and Rearrange) problemsolving techniques, is proposed to re-design the SFM in order to address the problem mentioned above. A case study was conducted to show how this approach can be applied to re-design the SFM, resulting in a more wearable an comfortable SFM design. |
