The problematic of this project comes from the challenges confronted by the author in her teaching. Students, who learn a variety of skills in college, are foreign to themselves in their pursuit of knowledge. They don't know themselves, they don't know what they want, they don't even have a sense of the meaning of life. Thus, they lack an intentional pursuit of values, blindly following others' opinions and social trends. From her teaching experience, the author discovers the importance of the motto “know thyself” inscribed on the temple at Delphi, and incorporates this project into the life education curriculum. This has led the author to create a course as part of the life education curriculum which can provide students with a range of life experience based on philosophical practice in their pursuit of knowledge in college, and then guide them on the path to knowing themselves. The paper will begin with the practices of self-knowledge, meaning in life, and the exploration of values, and then demonstrate how life education can offer an opportunity for philosophical practice. |
