The Tay people are the ethnic minoritygroup with the largest population in the community of ethnic minorities in Vietnam, residing mainly in the Northern Vietnam'supland and midland provinces such as Cao Bang, Lang Son and Tuyen Quang, Ha Giang etc...Over their long history of development, the Tay people have produced an extremely rich ancient folklore heritage, which consists of two parts: oral literature and written literature. Along with the development and perfection of the language, the Tay gradually combined the use of the physical, phonetic, and semantic elements of Han characters to create a writing system that reflects indigenous phonetic and semantic features, which has been used to record literary compositions and works of other fields. The paper is based on one of the most significant pieces in the Tay's treasure of classical literary folklore, currently archived at the Institute of Sino-Nom Studies, Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences – the Nom Tay narrative poetry. The paper's aim is to conduct an analysis of the quantity and content of this group of materials. The specific content of the article focuses on the current state of the texts of the NomTay narrative poems, the number of NomTay narrative poetry works, and the major content of those NomTay narrative poetry works. Thereby, we hope to introduce international scholars an important part of the relatively unique and valuable ancient literary heritage of Vietnam. |
