Travel Literature is one of the genres of literature categories gaining popularity over the past few years. Travel Literature expands reader's vision of life, explores humanity of civilization, and cleanse and reflect the spirit of literary spirits. It has become anessential teaching resource of the humanities. As a university faculty teaching travel literature in the Chinese literature department, the author* has formulated the following pedagogy of travel literature: comprehension of text, use of imagery and allusion, analysis and discussion of issues, enhancement of writing skills, exploration of visual arts and more. The emphasis is on the preparation of writing assignment. Students are encouraged to use photos, videos and text to assemble a travel mini-book or multi-media travel literature. Students also learn from Geographic Information System (GIS) from faculty in other fields. The purpose is to incorporate modern technology to explore the destination in real time, so students can fully appreciate the text description of the location.
Chien Chen's ''Stopping in an unknown territory -traveling in France”is one of the most popular chapter readings of travel literature. This article will use a lesson plan to explain how to incorporate GIS to the teaching of travel literature. |
