The Dunhuang Manuscripts P.2172 is now kept at the National Library of France. Compared to today's prevalent editions of the Buddhist scriptures, it has special research value of the manuscript literature. Now we have known that the era of Dunhuang manuscripts are not later than the early years of the 11th century. The characters used in the Dunhuang Manuscripts P.2172 reflect the characteristics of the Tang and Five Dynasties, the content of phonetic notation as the main form, and adopt a large number of zhiyin. After clarifying the problems of the entry and zhiyin characters, we found that it shows several phonetic features of Hexi dialect belonging to the ancient northwest region. |
