The importance of collections in museums has been highly regarded since the inception of museums. However, in practical terms, the development of collection professionalism has not progressed as rapidly as expected. One of the central concerns revolves around whether the in-house personnel engaged in museum collections possess sufficient professional competence in areas such as basic concepts related to museums, conservation, and management. This challenge is particularly pronounced for local museums, which face multiple hurdles including inadequate organizational structures, limited human resources, and constrained budgets, making the routine collection work difficult to implement. When museums are compelled to rely on government procurement contracts and commission external professional teams to carry out collection work, in-house museum collection personnel are frequently found to lack the necessary professional knowledge, skills, and comprehensive planning abilities. In such a situation, how should museums formulate and manage their plans effectively? The purpose of this paper is to share experiences and reflections on collection work based on the author's past work in museums and to utilize narrative inquiry as the research methodology. It is hoped that through such sharing, they can inspire more museum professionals to engage in knowledge exchange, thus conveying the values and mission of museums. |
