A Study on the Power of the t Test

閱讀國內外的教育研究報告，大多數的研究者通常只說明犯第一類型錯誤(TypeI error) 的機率有多大，往往很少有研究者在其研究報告上， 提及統計考驗力 (power oftest) 的大小。 統計考驗力是指當虛無假設 (null hypothesis) 為假時，能正確拒絕虛無假設的機率。因此，它是考驗假設的一個重要指標，同時它亦有助於決定適當的樣本數目。本文針對統計考驗力的定義、重要性及其影響因素， 進行探究，並舉一些例子說明 t 考驗之統計考驗力的算法，期能讓讀者對統計考驗力有進一步的瞭解。

Reading the educational reserach reports， most researchers usually onlyexplain the probability of the Type I error， and they address the probability ofthe power of the test seldom. The power of the test refers to the probabilitythat will correctly reject the false null hypothesis， and that can help todecide an adequate sample size. This paper makes a study on the power issue， andgives some examples to explain the calculation of power for the purpose ofhelping readers to have better understanding the power.
