Both the principle of respect for autonomy and that of justice are crucial, but there is a situation where medical practitioners must intervene and manage the medicine for patients, not merely complying with the concepts of the principles. I argue the intervention is justified even if medical practitioners might not respect patients' autonomous decision inevitably. While we respect both the principle of respect for autonomy and the principle of justice, I hold medical practitioners and policymakers' intervention is necessary to prevent patients from being harmed and promote impartial distribution of limited medical aids for patients waiting for them. |
