After President Ma Ying-jeou and Vice President Wu Den-yih of the Republic of China took their oaths of office on May 20, the first new ministry following government's reorganization—the Ministry of Culture (MOC)—was established. The first Culture Minister is Lung Yingtai, who shoulders the heavy burden of sending the roots of culture deep into Taiwan's soil while carrying out innovation for the future. As she unveiled the ministry's name plaque, Ms Lung said she was boldly ambitious of shifting culture from the periphery to the core of central government administration, to initiate a new era for cultural development in Taiwan. |
