Finance plays one of the most important roles in commercial activities. This research compares the financial depths in Taiwan and mainland China in the last decade. The dimensions include the financial intermediates and current market status among banks, life insurance industry, and stock markets. The Mann-Whitney U test shows that Taiwan and mainland China have statistically significant differences in life insurance industry and stock markets, while the penetration rates of the amount and the quantity of the banking cards in China have already exceeded those in Taiwan. Taiwan's financial authorities should expand the existed financial market by improving the business environment, tax institution, international financing services, and financial supervision in Taiwan. Developing new markets and reducing regulatory barriers (such as capital limitation and restricted business scope for foreign financial institutions in mainland China) may be enhanced by more detailed negotiations under the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA). |
