The Legislative Yuan approved a roster of 12 members of the National Communications Commission (NCC) on Jan. 12. Once the NCC is formally established, it will take responsibility for all of the operations of three major agencies: the Dept. of Posts and Telecommunications, the Directorate General of Telecommunications (both units of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications), and the Government Information Office. The NCC will, for example, handle the reorganization of the radio spectrum, planning for the annual readjustment of cable TV channels, and revision of the Telecommunications Act and other related laws. |
