This paper examines valuable primary source materials contained in the Xijin zhi 析津志 which describe briefly ceremonies held in the spirit halls of imperial temples for the deceased emperors and empresses of the Yuan dynasty. The paper also identifies personages and Buddhist temples mentioned in the text, corrects erroneous terms, and points out the value of dates not found elsewhere. The main goal of this study is to facilitate the use of this short but important text for historical research by making it more readable and showing how it could be applied to various aspects of historical research. I also explore the significance of this rare document in the context of Mongol-Yuan politics. |
