Pharmacy care in the past has emphasized mostly on the cost and its outcome. A value-based service, however, should not only provide disease treatment but also take the patient’s value system, way of thoughts and living habits into consideration. This essay, with a case study on medical adherence, looks into the pharmacist-patient relationship, seeking to understand the influencing factors and trying to provide possible solutions. By applying psychological theories of habit, it is concluded that the feelings and mental state of patients are imperative to medical adherence, and pharmacists should provide patients with proper consultation to ensure that the chosen remedy meets the expectation of the patients. In that regard, this essay intends to illustrate pharmacy care with a high value and to offer a standard of procedures for future reference. |
