Saisiyat is an Austronesian language in northern Taiwan, with a population less than 3,000 today . It ha9 two dialects: Taai 大隘 to the north and Tungho 東河 to the south. For the northern dialect, Ogawa and Asai (1935:109-128) outlined its phonetics, morphology and syntax and provided 7 texts with translation in Japanese , and Starosta (1974:325-333) discussed the causative construction in the lexicase model. As for the southern dialect, Chao (1954) and Tsuchida (1964) described its phonology based on their own observations of the data they collected in the field. I investigated both dialects, collecting data at all levels: phonology, syntax and vocabulary. |
