This research note is the preface for the second edition for the book Are You Listing When the Teacher Is Talking? The Norms and the Styles for Thesis and Paper Writing. I retrace the backlash of the students due to my strict requirements. Contrast to other teachers, they make digs at the methods I advise the graduate students. Furthermore, more comparison and discussion are delivered for the teaching and thesis advising for the program of executive master of business administration and the master graduate students in the regular program. I also explain why it is not appropriate to cancel thesis requirement to obtain master degree under the special education environment and model in Taiwan. The reasons are also raised for that without any instruction and advisory plagiarism can occur in any academic areas with no differences. The difference between this edition and the previous edition is highlighted. The section of plagiarism is highlighted and the debate for the oxymoron term of self-plagiarism is also explored. A new section is joined to compare the strength, difficulty, advantage, and worry for thesis writing performance for students in the program of the executive master of business administration and the regulate one. This preface looks through the shade of the higher education in Taiwan. It is expected that the second edition of this book can be a good companion when you are self-reliance in preparing a class report and paper or writing a degree thesis. |
