The design and construction of building envelope systems run across multiple phases in the project lifecycle, from the early design phases to the operation phase. The building envelope information modeling of each stage must support decision-making and collaboration with an adequate level of abstractions based on project delivery progress, which is often referred as LOD (Level of Development). Some theories have been introduced; but have very limited study in physical project implementation for interdisciplinary collaboration framework in reality. This paper presents a physical collaborative environment from design to construction for building envelope industry. The discussion focuses on the resolution of the following issues that have been studied and implemented:(1) modelling standards in building envelope, (2) knowledge-based model library, (3) federated and element-based model database management, (4) management and association of manufacturing information, and (5) the management and association of information for job site installation of the building envelope system. The results are illustrated and discussed with physical project practice in this paper. |
