My recent observations and interviews conducted on local NGOs in northern Myanmar have revealed an interconnection between the different NGOs, one prominent case being “The Joint Strategy Team (JST) for Humanitarian Response in Kachin and Northern Shan States”. Bearing this in mind, this paper will first clarify the concepts and implications highlighted by this “interconnection” through the lens of the theory on “advocacy networks”. Secondly, the history behind the rise of local NGOs will be explained with Myanmar’s political history. Finally, the JST’s origin, objective, tangible effects, and trans-boundary trend will be comprehensively explained. |
