In 1813, William Milne, who was sent by the London Missionary Society, arrived in Macao to assist Robert Morrison, who was the first Protestant missionary in China. However, for several reasons, Milne couldn’t stay in China and had to move to Malacca to set up a new mission station. During his stay in Malacca, Milne made great achievements not only in promulgating gospels and establishing schools, but also in publishing a newspaper, translating the Bible and writing novels, all of which exerted great influence on the field of religion, education and culture in Malacca. |
